White Hugel Pinot Blanc Cuvee les Amours, Alsace, France £13.99 A star every time it has been tasted this year! This is a much under-rated variety from a classic area. The wine suits any occasion and a multitude of food types. My ‘go to’ wine for Xmas (and any other time! Kirsty
Plaimont Les Vignes Retrouvées, Saint Mont, France £10.99 This white from the rediscovered vines of Gros Manseng, Arrufiac and Petit Courbu is well worth trying. Offering a rich and full style with flavours of citrus, peach and pear. This dry wine will make an excellent partner for Christmas dinner. Susan
Thierry Pillot Les Argilliers Saint Aubin 2015, Burgundy, France £34.99 Finding classic white Burgundy at a decent price is a struggle. This wine delivers everything examples from Chassagne & Puligny Montrachet offer, however at about £25 a bottle cheaper, this is great value. A beautiful Chardonnay with aroma & flavours of citrus, almond and white flowers. Ideal with white meat or fish. Neal
Red Romeo & Juliet Passione Sentimento Rosso, Veneto, Italy
This rich and full-bodied red is made from the partially dried grapes – 40% Merlot, 30% Corvina, 30% Croatina. Bursting with red and black berry fruits, chocolate, liquorice and spice. The finish is smooth. Ideal in front of the fire, with red meat or cheese. Susan
Clunia Tempranillo 2013, Castilla, Spain
100% Tempranillo aged 12 months on both American and French oak. Rich, rustic, harmony of dark fruits with toasty notes Very well balanced with a good acidity and soft tannins.
Perfect match to hard & strong flavoured cheeses especially strong sheep milk ones. Mine
Creu Celta 2014, Priorat, Spain This is the first vintage were all the grapes come solely from our vineyard. The vines have now matured, giving much more complexity. Even though this comes from a cooler vintage, this a super example of the region. We are very proud of the 2014 Creu Celta! A rich winter warmer this is an excellent pairing with beef or venison. Peter M
Cristia Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Rhône, France 85% Grenache & 15% Syrah. A classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape with dark berry fruits, peppery spice & a rich, long finish. The perfect wine for Christmas dinner. I love it so much & I’m greedy with it as well! Christina
Porta 6 Reserva, Lisboa, Portugal£10.99 A gorgeous, full-bodied, rich Portuguese wine, full of red and black berry fruit and spice. Sit by the fire and ignore winter with this wine! Eamonn
Rioja Vega Gran Reserva, Rioja, Spain £19.99 This trophy winning wine transports me instantly back to sunny Spain, which is ideal at this time of year. The rich jammy cherry and blackberry fruits are accompanied by cinnamon, anise and liquorice, giving an incredibly long length. Heavenly! Peter R
