Priorat, Spain
The final blend for our 3rd vintage of Creu Celta was made in April 2008. This 2006 vintage has a majority component of old vines Samso. Whilst blended mainly with Garnatxa, it has a small addition of other grapes. Half of the wine was fermented in open top French oak barrels and the rest in stainless steel. The wine has been aged in a mixture of new oak, one year old oak and stainless steel. Production for the Creu Celta 2006 is less than 3500 bottles. It has the hallmark characteristics of wine from this spectacular region. Rich, textured and full bodied it has pine, chocolate, cherry, plum and currant notes. This is underpinned by a typical smoky minerality from aroma to palate. No pesticides or herbicides have been used at our vineyard in Salanques, Poboleda, Priorat.

"I very much prefer the 2006 to the 2005...a definitely superior wine, with better balance (the acid was less intrusive) and much better mid-palate, with more complexity and similarly smooth tannins. If the improvement from year to year is as much as between these two vintages, you’re definitely going in the right direction, and it’s a very exciting prospect. It’s exciting anyway, and I really congratulate you on the decision to make a serious wine in a top appellation, rather than just churning out ordinary wine somewhere boring."
